I have a tiny bit of an obsession with books, anyone else? Stacks and stacks of them on my office shelves, desk, and nightstand. Those I’ve read, plan to read, some to give away…so stay tuned. 😉 I’ve gone through a lot of books in my day and worn covers off quite a few as well. And yes, they do bring me joy so don’t try to Marie Kondo me out of them.

In high school I had a Bible I loved. I used it well into college and even into adulthood until it literally fell to pieces and I had to let it go. I may or may not still have the cover and a couple of random pages from the New Testament stashed in a tote somewhere. I had a small leather covered Bible I could carry in my purse I loved so much until my dog ate it – for real, this is not a homework excuse. My husband quickly replaced it with a replica. But I searched for a study Bible to use at home as I learned to dig in to scripture and study each word in a new way and the context of each story.

Until recently, I “borrowed” my husband’s on a regular basis. He obviously loved this as much as he loved when I borrowed “our” favorite sweatshirt. A couple of weeks ago I received a complimentary copy of the Thomas Nelson NKJV Study Bible Full-Color Version for review. So here we go…let’s dig in to what I love about this Bible and why I’m going to give my husband back his Study Bible.

Basic Book Info: Thomas Nelson New King James Version Study Bible Full-Color Edition is a full color study Bible with notes, maps, graphics, timelines, commentaries , and index of resources, that enhance your study of Scripture. It is printed in an easy to read font and mine was covered in a gorgeous burgundy super soft, faux-leather with gold accent stitching that could easily be personalized with embossing.  There are two bookmark ribbons as well for keeping tabs as you read and study.

Things I Love: The verse-by-verse commentary or study notes. I like to read and re-read sometimes to get the full context of a story and the verse-by-verse notes help me see what is happening each step of the way. I also love the addition of color maps and the timelines. Features like this help keep the Biblical stories in perspective for me. I found the additional notes, thoughts, and word origins shared in this version were especially interesting and helpful in my study. As you know, I am not a Times New Roman fan, perhaps it is petty, but I appreciate this is not printed in that particular font. Additionally, I was very impressed with the NKJV translation. I found it a happy medium between NIV (which I used in high school and college most frequently) and KJV which I appreciate much more now as an adult.

Things I Did Not Love: The words of Christ are not printed in red. I realize this may be a thing of the past in new printings of the Bible, but is a feature I certainly appreciate and I do wish this version had done that.
